Clubhouse Management Report
Well what a great year it’s been. We’ve had lots of great social events to organise, lots of open meetings to cater for and many training events too.
Our first social was the Easter Quiz which was a great success thanks to the hard work of the Bellamy family who organised the quiz and to all the ladies who organised the catering. This was a fantastic start to the social life of the club in 2012.
Next we had a ‘bring your own’ barbecue for the Beaver Regatta weekend which coincided with the Jubilee, and a BBQ for the annual Marathon Open meeting event. These were well attended and very enjoyable.
However, the main event at Beaver this year was the Mexican Night on August Bank Holiday Sunday. This was going to be the last social event in the old clubhouse forever so it needed to be good! A huge thank you to all involved in the planning, organising, catering, running the ‘bar’ and all the other tasks that happen behind the scenes. Thanks to Neil for organising the surprise turn on the night, the fantastic “Kitty Kats” burlesque dancers who provided great entertainment for the evening. Without all of this, events would not be as memorable or as much fun and this was no exception. Everyone had a great time and it was a wonderful goodbye to the old place!
Unfortunately our annual bonfire had to be cancelled as demolition and clearing of the site was underway (although an unplanned bonfire did happen!) so we are hoping to have a fantastic display to make up for it next time.
The annual dinner dance was held at the Kyte Hotel in Darrington for a change and was a very enjoyable night. There were lots of old faces and plenty of new ones too and as usual Peter Hone with his glamorous assistant Helen Penty did a brilliant job distributing prizes, trophies, surprise presents and plenty of witty banter!
At this point I would like to thank everyone who has helped in the galley this year, including all the ladies on the Clubhouse Management Committee and several ladies not on the Committee who have also given their time and effort to help us provide great food and drink and a welcoming atmosphere to all comers. We have many training events, open meetings and social events as well as the normal club racing and training school. This means we have many visitors and it is important to create a great feeling to the place, especially as we move forward into 2013 and our new clubhouse.
Hopefully 2013 will be another fantastic year for Beaver. There will be lots of events on and off the water and lots of decorating and finishing off to do so if anyone can spare a few hours please consider coming along and joining in – we appreciate all the help we can get!

- DINNER DANCE & ANNUAL PRIZEGIVING – Kyte Hotel, Great North Road, Darrington, WF8 3HR - Friday, 22 November, 7.00 for 7.30 pm Black tie/smart lounge suits
